Obituary - Phyllis Watts Warren

Mrs. Phyllis Watts Warren, 88, of Artemus, passed away Sunday morning, April 7, 2024 at Baptist Health Corbin. She was the daughter of the late Howard Kelly and Emily Elizabeth Wilson York born on September 24, 1935 in Artemus.

Phyllis was a homemaker and a member of the Artemus Christian Church where she served in the Women’s Fellowship. She was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star and enjoyed cooking meals for family and friends, babysitting, traveling and attending church. Phyllis also enjoyed drinking coffee before church with her friends.

On March 3, 1953, she united in marriage with Jimmie Watts and to this union three children were born. Later on December 23, 1972, she united in marriage with August Warren.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Faye Rice and brothers, Willie Ray, Lee H., Charles Kelly and Marcus York.

Survivors include her loving children, Pauline Perkins and husband, Gary L., of Williamsburg and Sam Watts and wife, Patricia, of Artemus; a brother, Ruben York and wife, Kathy, of Artemus; a son-in-law, Mike Rice of Barbourville; cherished grandchildren, Dr. Shannon Perkins and husband, Jamie Gray, of Williamsburg, Jimberly Jordan and husband, Tanner, and Samuel Watts all of Artemus; a great grandson, Garrison Gray; numerous children that she babysat and lovingly called her “Mamaw Phil”; among other loved ones and dear friends.

Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Monday, April 15 at 2 P.M. with Bro. Derrick Foster officiating. She will be laid to rest in the York – Sargent Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be Samuel Watts, Jason York, Josh Mills, Tanner Jordan, Justin York, Josh Stevens and Tommy Lockard. Honorary bearers will be family, friends and her church family.

Friends may visit at the funeral home Monday after 12 Noon until the funeral hour.

The family suggests donations to the Artemus Christian Church in her memory.
