Girdler Elementary hosts first ‘Paws Up’ award ceremony

by Regina Bargo, Staff Writer

Every single day, great teachers leave their workplace wondering, hoping, and praying they made a positive impact on their students. With all the other titles that they have to carry in a single school day, beneficial teaching is nothing short of a miracle. Not only do they teach, they are counselors, nurses, encouragers, bookkeepers, decorators, negotiators, evaluators, and compromisers… to name a few. In the meantime, they are constantly learning new techniques themselves.

Approximately 25 students walk into a classroom each year, all from different backgrounds, all with their own learning styles, with their own mental baggage, and learning capabilities. It’s a teacher’s job to successfully figure out each student so that by the end of the year they have shown ten months of educational growth.

In addition to teachers, it takes cooks, custodians, teacher aides, secretaries, coaches, and etc to fill the gaps in the lives of students.

With this in mind, Girdler Elementary School held their First Annual PAWS UP Program on Tuesday evening, May 14th at Locust Grove Missionary Baptist Church. The students receiving this award were being recognized as one of the top fifth graders in the 2023-2024 school.

In addition, students who received this honor were asked to present an award to a current school employee who has made a difference in their life and had a great influence on their educational experience at Girdler Elementary.

Those receiving awards were as follows:
