by Charles Myrick, Publisher

Barbourville ARH Hospital honored its nursing staff on Friday, May 9 for both National Nurses Week, and to name the nominees and winner of the 2025 DAISY Award.
Nominees included Renee Carton, Tammy Burchett, Roy Dusina, Trinity Blevins, Amber Grubb, Natalie Brock, Linda Napier, Stephanie Sanders, and Rebecca Doolin.
The nurse chosen to receive the 2025 DAISY Award was Tammy Burchett, who was presented with a sculpture, a bouquet of daisies, and an assortment of other gifts.
The award’s name, DAISY, is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune SYstem, and was created as a way to honor nurses by the family of Patrick Barnes, who died in 1999 at the age of 33 from the autoimmune disease, ITP. Barnes and his family wanted a way to say "thank you" and honor nurses who go above and beyond each day for their patients.
ARH Chief Nursing Officer Brenda Graham and CEO Beau Masterson presented the awards.
