Worry…. A Waste of Precious Time

Posted

Today when I woke up with my mind swirling, I suddenly realized I was letting too many current events get the best of me. These are troubling times for sure. So much division and criticism in the world. Problems come in such various sizes and shapes. Some affect my emotions, and others stir my whole being! Quite frankly, the solution to a problem lies within me, and how I choose to deal. About all I can control is my thinking, and managing my emotions. I don’t take the “Fiddly Dee” ……I will think about that tomorrow” , Scarlet O’Hara sentiment totally, but I try to find a balance. I’m holding to the promise with circumstances that “this too shall pass“ follows all events of our day. May those events be joyful or challenging. I try to find some good each day and enjoy, as I believe in the promise of tomorrow. Today’s the day I quit worrying about things I cannot change or understand. I will remember that to worry is a waste of my precious time….. and of my soul.

The only thing I can do daily is keep my faith that God is in total control. Focus on my, life/world and do the best I can. We never know what tomorrow may bring, so don’t waste a day of peaceful existence with worry over tomorrow. Worry and fear of the unknown, or a feeling of responsibility to control tomorrow, is natural for some. Though we may try to control…….sadly we can’t. We cannot control the current events, we cannot control the weather, and we truly don’t control our life. The Lord has his plan for each of us. What we can do is lead daily with love, and care as best we can for those we love and any others we may aid along our way. Our family, like all families, have face worldly problems and medical challenges as we have aged. The medical world is complicated, a bit sterile, and scary. So, if you are at home today, peaceful in your world, do not fret and waste this day. Give thanks to God, be grateful, and know HE is in control. Turn off the news! Stay off the computer. If possible walk outside and breathe deeply, take in the sun…. when it is shining, or a soaking rain. We need both! If you are unable to go outside and have a window breathe deeply and take in your view of this day! No matter what your view today, I hope that a kind word is along your way.

Try to find the good in your situation and give your worry away. And, be reminded that we all have our trials and tribulations in our one beautiful life….. it truly is a gift!

The following poem by Edgar Albert Guest 1818 to 1959 is a good way to look at life……..

Hard Luck

Ain’t no use as I can see
    In sittin’ underneath a tree
    An’ growlin’ that your luck is bad,
    An’ that your life is extry sad;

  Your life ain’t sadder than your neighbor’s
  Nor any harder are your labors;
  It rains on him the same as you,
  An’ he has work he hates to do;
  An’ he gits tired an’ he gits cross,
  An’ he has trouble with the boss;
  You take his whole life, through an’ through,
  Why, he’s no better off than you.
  If whinin’ brushed the clouds away
  I wouldn’t have a word to say;
  If it made good friends out o’ foes
  I’d whine a bit, too, I suppose;
  But when I look around an’see
  A lot o’ men resemblin’me,
  An’ see ‘em sad, an’ see ‘em gay
  With work t’do most every day,
  Some full o’fun, some bent with care,
  Some havin’troubles hard to bear,
  I reckon, as I count my woes,
  They’re ‘bout what everybody knows.
  The day I find a man who’ll say
  He’s never known a rainy day,
  Who’ll raise his right hand up an’ swear
  In forty years he’s had no care,
  Has never had a single blow,
  An’never known one touch o’ woe,
  Has never seen a loved one die,
  Has never wept or heaved a sigh,
  Has never had a plan go wrong,
  But allas laughed his way along;
  Then I’ll sit down an’start to whine
  That all the hard luck here is mine.

Millie’s Thought for the Day: Find a tree to sit beneath, ground yourself, breathe and find a way to have gratitude for all the blessings in your life.

Give thanks and give the rest up to God.
