This time last year, Wilma (Baker) Miracle was celebrating her 99th birthday. While offering the younger generation advice, she quoted UK’s Coach Pope: “Keep fighting! Stay in the game!” Then, she proceeded to follow that same advice. Therefore, on Friday, March 13th, Wilma celebrated her 100th Birthday with a birthday party which was hosted by a long time family friend, Mary Congleton.
Family members from five generations attended. They traveled from all over the country: Washington D.C., Arizona, California, Texas, and Illinois. There were also a host of friends in attendance. In all, there were 44 guests.
Wilma’s son, Britt, provided the opening remarks which denoted the events that his mother had lived through over the past 100 years. Next, Knox County Judge Executive, Mike Mitchell, presented Wilma with a plaque recognizing her work as a teacher, mentor, and community leader. This plaque recognized Wilma’s enduring legacy of perseverance, service, and inspiration, which would continue to inspire generations of citizens throughout Knox County. Furthermore, the Knox County Fiscal Court proudly proclaimed March 13th, 2026 Wilma (Baker) Miracle Day.
Afterwards, Mayor David Thompson presented Wilma with a framed certificate recognizing her as A Lifetime Citizen of Barbourville, Kentucky. Several friends followed the presentation by reminiscing and sharing kind thoughts about Wilma.
Throughout the evening, everyone enjoyed refreshments and lighthearted conversations. Meanwhile, Wilma received three bouquets of flowers and several birthday gifts. What does she think of turning a year older? Wilma said, “I don’t feel any different to be 100 years old!” She has three goals for the year ahead, “Keep going, keep going, and keep going!”
