Richard “Rick” Benton Hughes, Sr., passed away Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at Baptist Health Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. Born February 2, 1947, in Alva, Kentucky, Rick was the son of the late Charles and Rubye Hughes.
In addition to his father and mother, Rick was preceded in death by his sister, Angela Smith.
Rick leaves behind his beloved family: his loving wife of 57 years, Sally Hyde Hughes; daughter, Jenny Rebecca Hughes Saylor and husband John; son, Richard “Ricky” Benton Hughes, Jr., and wife Jenni Sue; granddaughter, Bailey Ann Hughes Potter and husband Trae; and grandson, Gavin Blane Hughes.
Rick was a devoted member of Calvary Baptist Church in Corbin for 50+ years.
Rick was a gentle soul, a man of few words, but he spoke volumes with his generosity, dependability, dedication, selflessness, and a huge capacity to love.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, September 26, 2026, in the Hart Funeral Home Chapel with Kevin Roach officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 12 – 2 P.M. Saturday at Hart Funeral Home, located at 1011 Master Street in Corbin
