Obituary - Elhonon “El” Pennington

Elhonon “El” Pennington went to his eternal home on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at the age of 87 years and 8 months, surrounded by family.  He was born January 12, 1939, in Leslie County.

He leaves to mourn his passing his devoted wife of 59 + years, Ora “Penny,” who loved him dearly, and a host of family, nieces, nephews, and friends.

El was preceded in death by his parents, Burley and Stella Pennington; two brothers: Willie Pennington and Arthur Pennington; three sisters: Margaret Fields, Alpha Pennington, and Thelma Davis; and two nieces whom he loved.

El is survived by two brothers: James Pennington and wife Opel, and Carl Pennington.

El was retired from Takoma Adventist Hospital in Greenville, Tennessee.  He worked in the engineering department where he developed lifelong skills to share in helping others, as well as lifelong friendships.

He loved to hunt, fish, can vegetables, and help others work on things, as he enjoyed building as well.

Vacations were spent with family for many years which were some of his greatest memories.

El believed in the Bible teachings of the Church of Christ.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, September 24, 2026, in the Hart Funeral Home Chapel with Bill Browning and Bill Burke officiating.  Burial will follow at Locust Grove Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 12 – 2:00 P.M. Thursday at Hart Funeral Home, located at 1011 Master Street in Corbin.
