Recently we have had several storms blow through. The lightening and thunder have gotten my attention and the attention of our dog. Even in the middle of the night she lets us know something different is going on outside. Often we can sense when storms approach and other times they descend upon us with no warning. Lately many people are barking about gathering storms. I think the next months are going to be dark and stormy but sunshine will break as the storms pass. But while the winds pick up and the skies darken, it’s time to batten down the hatches and lower the sails and prepare for the on-slot. Provisions are important to stock up on, but the greatest preparation is prayer. Prayer calms the heart and mind in the chaos; reminding us of the power of our Pilot and of His nearness. Get ready, a month’s worth of provisions and an eternity’s worth of prayer and meditation with our Lord is wisdom and safety.
Our prayer gathering this month is October 1, Thursday night at 7pm, at the Knox County Courthouse, with a very special speaker that I have been trying to arrange for a couple of years. Tom Vincini is our guest speaker this month. Tom is the President of Operation UNITE (Unlawful Narcotics Investigations, Treatment and Education). This is a non-profit organization in KY that fights substance abuse through a comprehensive approach. Launched in April 2003 by US Congressman Hal Rogers, the organization serves southern and eastern KY, focusing on 33 primary counties with prevention programming in an additional 10 counties. The programs of UNITE are very effective. Tom is a man who loves Jesus and people. He will challenge you with the scope of the need and what resources are being brought to bear to deal with the storm of the impact of drugs in our state.
Join us and learn how we can pray for this important program and show appreciation for what they have done to protect our communities.
