Knox County UNITE Treats Sheriff’s Office to a Pizza Lunch

Posted

Knox County UNITE members Dwight Davis, Marcia Dixon, and Claudia Greenwood visited the Knox County Sheriff’s Department on Friday to present a special thankyou lunch to the Sheriff , deputies, and staff. The Sheriff’s Office earned the top spot in a friendly competition between the Kentucky State Police, the Barbourville City Police, and the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.
The contest encouraged officers from each agency to attend Upward/UNITE basketball games and practices throughout the season which lasted from January - March. The department whose personnel logged the most visits would receive a free lunch courtesy of Knox County UNITE. After weeks of enthusiastic participation, the Sheriff’s Office emerged as the clear winner and was treated to a pizza lunch in recognition of their commitment.
In addition to the department award, a special individual honor was presented. Sharon Boggs of the Knox County Sheriff’s Office received a $50 check for being the single participant who attended the most Upward/UNITE events overall. Her consistent presence and encouragement for local youth were highlighted as an outstanding example of community engagement.
Claudia Greenwood, Knox County UNITE Chair and other UNITE representatives, expressed their appreciation for all three law enforcement agencies, noting that their involvement helps strengthen relationships with young people and reinforces the positive values promoted through the Upward/UNITE program.
“Seeing our officers show up for these kids—week after week—means more than they know,” said Greenwood during the presentation. “We’re grateful for every agency that participated, and we’re proud to recognize the Sheriff’s Office for going above and beyond.”
The Upward/UNITE basketball program continues to grow as a partnership that brings together youth, families, volunteers, and local law enforcement, building a stronger and more connected Knox County.
