TRI-CITY — Knox County kept its tournament hopes alive Saturday, holding off a late Tri-City rally for a 7-5 victory in loser’s bracket action of the 12U Baseball All-Star Tournament.
Knox County scored two runs in the first inning, added two more in the third and tacked on insurance runs in the fifth and sixth innings before Tri-City mounted a comeback attempt.
Tri-City scored two runs in each of the final two innings, but Knox County held on to advance.
Tripp Taylor scored twice and collected two hits while Hudson Butler went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Tucker Greene scored twice and drove in a run, and Gunner Graggs added a triple and an RBI.
Carter Smith drove in a run, Gunner Carnes added a hit and Bryson Asher crossed the plate after drawing a pair of walks.
Case Thompson delivered a strong relief performance, allowing two runs on four hits over five innings while striking out five. Jacob Mills worked the sixth inning and recorded a strikeout after Tripp Taylor started the game.
Knox County finished with seven hits and took advantage of three Tri-City errors.
Team members include Evan Barrett, Gunner Carnes, Zayden Cunningham, Case Thompson, Tucker Greene, Carter Smith, Tripp Taylor, Bryson Asher, Hudson Butler, Gunner Graggs, John Miles and Jacob Mills.
