Knox County Looks to Continue Unbeaten Summer at Little League State Tournament

Posted

BARBOURVILLE — Fresh off an unbeaten run through the District 4 Tournament, Knox County will set its sights on a state championship when the Kentucky Little League 9-11 State Softball Tournament gets underway Saturday at South Oldham.
Knox County punched its ticket to the state tournament by winning the District 4 title without suffering a loss and now enters state play carrying plenty of confidence and momentum.
Knox County opens tournament play Saturday at 5 p.m. on Field 5 against host South Oldham.
A first-round victory would move Knox County into the second round Sunday at 7 p.m. against the winner of Washington County and North Oldham.
The opposite side of the bracket features Frankfort taking on Daviess County, with the winner advancing to face Morehead on Sunday evening for a berth in the state semifinals.
If Knox County remains unbeaten, it would advance to the state semifinals on Tuesday, July 7, at 4 p.m. on Field 5. A win there would send District 4’s champions into the state championship game on Thursday, July 9, at 2 p.m. on Field 4.
The tournament is played in a double-elimination format, meaning a team advancing through the loser’s bracket would have to defeat the unbeaten finalist twice to capture the state championship.
