Knox County Judge-Executive Mike Mitchell has officially signed a proclamation recognizing the national impact and local importance of the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP), which helps low-income families improve home energy efficiency and lower utility costs.
The proclamation, signed earlier this week, highlights the partnership between Knox County government and KCEOC Community Action Partnership’s Weatherization Program, which provides cost-free services such as insulation, air sealing, and energy audits to qualified households.
Since its creation in 1976, the federally funded Weatherization Assistance Program has helped millions of Americans save energy and improve living conditions. Locally, KCEOC’s efforts have reduced the energy burden for hundreds of Knox County residents, cutting utility bills while improving indoor air quality and home safety.
Standing alongside Judge Mitchell for the signing were Mitzi Hubbard, Energy Partnership Program Administrator with the National Community Action Partnership; Michael Swafford, KCEOC Housing Development and Rehabilitation Director; and Jericho Mason, KCEOC Weatherization Evaluator.
The proclamation recognizes Weatherization Day as a reminder of the program’s ongoing role in addressing energy efficiency and economic challenges across the county.
