STEARNS — Knox Central continued its midseason surge Friday night, scoring early and often on its way to a 49-3 district victory over McCreary Central.
The Panthers won their third consecutive game and improved to 4-2 while picking up an important district victory.
“Really proud of our kids we had great week of practice kids bought into the game plan and executed at a high level,” Knox Central coach Wayne Mills said. “Total team effort proud of my coaches they got our players ready to play this week. Good to get a district win.”
Knox Central marched down the field on its opening possession with Brayden Sizemore finishing the drive with a touchdown to give the Panthers a 7-0 lead.
Quarterback Eli Carey added a touchdown on a keeper to extend the advantage to 14-0. Carey then connected with Coleman Spencer on a 30-yard touchdown pass with 1:30 remaining in the first quarter, sending Knox Central into the second with a 21-0 lead.
The Panthers continued making plays on both sides of the ball.
Freshman Kanyon Shelton came up with an interception to give the offense another possession while Kobe Reed later found the end zone to push Knox Central’s lead to 28-0.
McCreary Central got on the scoreboard with a field goal before halftime, but Knox Central still carried a commanding 28-3 advantage into the break.
The Panthers added another touchdown in the third quarter to make it 35-3 and continued to pull away before closing out the 49-3 victory.
