Community members and local officials came together for the annual Groundhog Day celebration, presented by Tri-County Mystery Meets. Willie Carr, the groundhog, with the help of the cold locals in attendance, made his seasonal prediction: he did not see his shadow, hoping for an early spring, in contrast to Punxsutawney Phil, who saw his shadow and predicted six more weeks of winter. Knox County Clerk Mike Corey shared the history of Groundhog Day, followed by Ellie Doolin singing the national anthem, and live music by Justin Riley. After the groundhog events, Judge Executive Mike Mitchell and Mayor David Thompson signed a proclamation to honor the Daughters of the American Revolution and to start a community observance for the nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary.
