A man fatally shot his son Monday evening on Binghamtown Road in the Stinking Creek community of Knox County.
Kentucky State Police report they responded to a call of a gunshot on Binghamtown Road, off Highway 223 just before 8 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 1. It was determined that a father and shot and killed his son. A motive for the shooting remains unknown.
The shooter was identified as John Elbert Hall, 70, and the victim, his son, was identified as Johnathan Hall, 47.
John Elbert Hall was charged with murder and incarcerated in the Knox County Detention Center. Bond was set at $100,000 cash, and a hearing is scheduled for September 4 in Knox District Court.
Assisting Kentucky State Police at the scene was the Barbourville Police Department, Knox County Sheriff’s Office, Knox County EMS and the Knox County Coroner.
The fatal shooting is still under investigation by Kentucky State Police.
Earlier this year, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office investigated an incident involving Johnathan Hall, who had allegedly intentionally started two fires at the Binghamtown Road residence, one out back and one underneath the home. He had also reportedly taken a vehicle and cell phone without the owner’s permission. Johnathan Hall’s report of arrests and prosecutions is extensive, with 20 arrests going back to 2009.
John Elbert Hall has no prior records of incarceration in Knox County, Ky.
