Strangulation, Theft Charges for Man Indicted by Knox Grand Jury

A Williamsburg man has been indicted on a string of serious charges, including first-degree strangulation, assault, theft, and terroristic threatening, stemming from a series of alleged violent acts that allegedly occurred in late March.
John Brandon Gray, 23, was formally indicted by a Knox County grand jury on seven felony counts tied to incidents that allegedly took place on March 28, 2025, and April 21, 2025. Gray is accused of using his hands to strangle the victim, causing physical injury by slamming her arm in a door, and threatening to kill the person identified as the victim, the indictment states.
In addition to the violence-related charges, Gray is also facing accusations of theft for allegedly stealing a 2012 Jeep Liberty. Additionally, he is further charged with criminal mischief for allegedly damaging a door belonging to a different person, causing between $500 and $1,000 in damages. He was also charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
The indictment also includes a count of Persistent Felony Offender in the second degree, citing Gray’s 2023 convictions in Knox Circuit Court for first-degree wanton endangerment and third-degree assault.
A healthy Knox County requires great community news.
