Obituary - Lonnie Ray Bruce

Mr. Lonnie Ray Bruce, 77, of Barbourville, passed away Tuesday evening, May 20, 2025 at Baptist Health Corbin.  He was born September 29, 1947 in Barbourville, the son of the late Gale and Virgie McCreary Bruce.

Lonnie was a former contractor and heavy equipment operator and owner and operator of the Lazy Boy Pay Lake.  He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed caring for his pets.  He was a beloved brother, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

On December 5, 1995, he united in marriage with Margaret Cain, who preceded him in death.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by sisters, Sandra Hubbs and Debbie Gaddis and a step-daughter, Maggie Smith.

Survivors include his loving children, Lonnie Ray Bruce Jr. and wife, Michelle, of Barbourville, Stephanie Lynn Vaughn and husband, Eddie, of Richmond, John Hinkle of London, James Art Hinkle and wife, Christy, of Gray, Kristi Bruce of Florida and Larry Hinkle and wife, Kelli, of Gray; special family friends, John “Bally” King and wife, Tammy, of Barbourville and their children, Cody King and wife, Erica, of Gray and Clayton King of Barbourville; sisters, Tammie Bruce of Gray and Melissa Bayer and husband, Gregg, of Verona; grandchildren, Shane and Alex Hinkle, Christian Bruce, Cain Smith, Kaitlyn Frazier, Elijah Vaughn, Kamden Smith, Bronson Roadan, Connor Bruce, Peyton Hinkle, Sydney Vaughn, Hayven, Hunter, Makayla and Sarah Beth Hinkle, Zoe Hale and Noah and Mason Bruce; several great grandchildren; among other loved ones and dear friends.

His funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Sunday, May 25 at 2 P.M. with Christian Bruce officiating.  He will be laid to rest in the Bruce Family Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be Connor Bruce, Elijah Vaughn, Peyton Hinkle, Hunter Hinkle, Cody King, Larry Hinkle, Gregg Bayer and Matthew Bayer.  Serving as honorary bearers will be John “Bally” King and Benny Sizemore.

Friends may visit at the funeral home Sunday after 12 Noon until the funeral hour.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
