Woman critically injured following standoff with law enforcement

A 53-year-old woman is in critical condition after being shot by a Knox County sheriff’s deputy Tuesday night during a standoff at her home, according to Kentucky State Police.
The incident began around 10:14 p.m. when deputies responded to Sugar Maple Drive at Green Road, Ky. for a report of a barricaded woman making suicidal threats. Upon entering the residence, deputies attempted to make contact with Daisy Allen, who reportedly sprayed them with an unknown substance that affected all three deputies.
Deputies attempted to subdue Allen using non-lethal force, including a Taser and pepper spray, but those efforts failed. Allen then allegedly threatened to kill the deputies and armed herself with a pitchfork. One deputy, responding to what authorities described as an immediate threat, fired his service weapon, striking Allen in the abdomen.
Allen was transported to the University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Hospital, where she remains in critical condition. No deputies were physically injured, though all required medical attention for exposure to the unknown substance.
The Kentucky State Police is leading the investigation, which remains ongoing. The Barbourville City Police Department also assisted at the scene.
KSP investigates officer-involved shootings statewide and said no further information will be released until key witness interviews are completed.
