The Knox Water District, Knox County Emergency Management, and the Knox County Health Department have issued the following public service announcement:
As of Tuesday morning (02/24/15), the areas of Dewitt, Flat Lick, Hwy 459, Possum Hollow, and the higher elevations of Sandy Branch continue to experience periods of water outages. The Knox Water District is currently unable to purchase water from the surrounding areas due to other water districts currently facing similar issues.
Knox County Emergency Management along with the American Red Cross is supplying bottled water to the areas where water outages continue. Please look for the American Red Cross vehicles in your area.
The entire Knox Water District continues to be under a boil water advisory. Here are a few reminders regarding using water that is under a boil water advisory:
- Boil water for at least 3 minutes. Start counting the 3 minutes when water is at a rolling boil.
- Do not use water that has not been boiled for any of the following:
- Washing or cleaning
- Brushing your teeth
- To make ice
- Do not use the water to make baby formula
- Use caution when bathing, being careful not to swallow any of the water
The Knox Water District is asking that their customers please conserve water as much as possible until service can be fully restored to all areas. Please be patient as the Knox Water District is working as fast as possible to resolve the issues.
If you have any questions or need bottled water, please contact the Knox County Health Department between the hours of 8:00 am – 4:00 pm at 606-546-3486.
