Sheriff encourages safe, fun holiday weekend

sheriff message 4th

Knox County Sheriff Mike Smith would like everyone to have a safe and enjoyable 4th of July Holiday Weekend. The summer holidays are times when families can come together and enjoy many outdoor recreational activates, which means more vehicular traffic on the highways.

Unfortunately, there are those that choose to operate a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Everyone needs to be safety conscious at all times, but especially during the holidays.

Again Sheriff Smith urges everyone to drive safely during the holiday period and remember, the best defense that a driver and their passengers has to protect themselves from an impaired driver is for:

All adults in the vehicle to wear their seatbelts

All children to be secured in a Child Safety Seat or Booster Seat Immediately report Impaired Drivers by calling 911.

Sheriff Smith would also like to take this time to remind everyone to utilize caution when setting off fireworks and to be considerate of your neighbors and others in your community when doing so.
