Organ donor awareness is in full swing at Knox HOSA. Members are educating the community on the facts of organ donation. Currently Knox County is ranked 88 out of 120 counties. Many people are just unaware or misunderstand the concept of being an organ donor. Being on the registry does not mean that if something happened to you that the ambulance workers would not do everything to save you. In fact it is exactly the opposite. Health care workers are programmed to save everyone. If there is a bad outcome then that weighs heavily on everyone involved. If that situation were to occur then being able to help an individual on the donor list would be a way to “make some good of a bad situation”. Twenty-two people die in KY every day awaiting a life-saving donation. If you could help someone wouldn’t you do that? If you would like to be placed on the registry come to Walmart on November 30th to have your permit or license swiped. Paper forms are also available from any HOSA member.
