Knox Central High School students Steven Sparks, Jonathan Rigney and Jesse Keyes were all chosen for the All-Regional Concert Band.

Three Knox Central High School students competed for and were ultimately selected to play in the All-Regional Concert Band on Jan. 8-10 at Madison Central High School in Richmond. From the left: Steven Sparks, a junior, the son of Steven and Patricia Sparks of Barbourville, will be playing the tuba. Jonathan Rigney (at top), a sophomore is the son of George Rigney, of Harlan and Mary Goodie of Barbourville will be playing trumpet. Sitting to the right is Jesse Keyes, a junior, the son of Linda Keyes of Barbourville. Jesse will be playing the baritone.

This is the first year that all of the school’s participating students made the band.

In order to be selected for the All-Regional Band, the students had to compete against other schools in the region. They were judged on their proficiency in music sight-reading, and then they each had to perform a prepared piece of music before the judges.

Knox County High School and the Marching Band Boosters wish to congratulate the students on their successful trip.
