Knox County Detention Center officials announced an inmate walked off a work release detail at 11:05 a.m. today.
Gary Sprinkles, Jr., 27, of Flat Lick, was attached to a work detail about 1 1/2 miles on Hwy 3153, less than a mile from Central Elementary School. He was last seen by Deputy Jailer Billy Smith headed away from Barbourville.
Sprinkles is currently serving the third month of a one-year sentence for theft of service. He was also under orders to pay $1,550 in restitution.
Sprinkles is 5 foot 9 inches tall, weighs 160 pounds, has green eyes, medium build with brown hair and fair skin. At the time of his escape he was wearing jeans, brown laced-up boots, and a gray long-sleeved shirt under his orange work release shirt.
