“The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.” -- Thomas Jefferson
Like many of you, as a little boy I watched as my parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles all worked hard for a living. The material things they acquired in life are one direct reflection of their efforts. The ability to give good gifts to others, like kids in the family at Christmas, was another. Finally, watching them succeed taught me that to be blessed with a job and physically able to work is a gift. Work is a gift that benefits others and us. As Jefferson’s quote implies, productive work is the foundation of our democracy.
