On Friday Sep. 5 at 11:21 a.m., State Police were called to a domestic violence dispute on Body Shop Lane in the Big Creek area of Stinking Creek. As police were en route to the dispute, the situation was upgraded to a shooting. Four State Police and Knox EMS were dispatched to the scene. Harold Carnes, who would have been sixty-one in October, was pronounced dead at the scene. His son, Harold Travis Carnes age 37, was arrested by State Police and lodged in the Knox County Detention Center at 3:26 p.m.
