It’s official. Three hats have now been thrown into November’s mayoral race.

Barbourville Mayor Darren West filed his papers with the Knox County Clerk’s office Wednesday.

West said he has never felt an urgency to file his candidacy. Although he always had planned to run, he had more pressing matters on his mind.

The Knox County Chamber of Commerce held it’s July luncheon on Tuesday with host Forcht Bank.

The guest speaker for the luncheon was Samuel R. Coleman, Jr., center director for the Kentucky Small Business Development Center in Middlesboro.  Coleman spoke to the group about opportunities to help develop new and existing businesses.

Artemus woman hospitalized after 2-car collision

An Artemus woman had to be extricated from her vehicle following a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 25 in Gray Monday morning.

According to KSP Post 10 Public Affairs Officer Trooper Shane Jacobs, at around 11:15 a.m. KSP Trooper Frank Russell responded to a crash at the intersection of U.S. 25E and KY 233.

Rogers to Receive Highest Honor from the National Guard Association of the U.S. and Commemorate the Monticello Artillery’s New Unit Designation

MONTICELLO, Ky – U.S. Rep. Harold “Hal” Rogers (KY-05) has been selected to receive the National Guard Association of the United States’ prestigious Harry S. Truman Award for Distinguished Service in Support of National Defense. Kentucky National Guard Adjutant General Edward Tonini nominated Rogers for the award. The public is invited to attend the presentation in a joint celebration of the “Color Casement Ceremony” at the Monticello National Guard Armory on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. (EDT). The 623rd Field Artillery will encase the colors of Battery C, and unveil the unit’s new colors of Battery B.
